How to activate SBI debit card or ATM card for online transaction

The big advantage of an ATM card is that you can withdraw money from any bank ATM, even if you have an account at a particular bank. 


When you open a new bank account and request a new ATM card, you will receive one which will be sent to your address via courier. You must activate a new ATM card before you can use it to withdraw money or make purchases. If you are an SBI customer, you can activate your new online ATM card on the internet banking portal. So, you don't have to bother visiting a bank branch just to activate an ATM card.

Visit the bank's website at www.onlinesbi.com

If you are already registered with Network Banking, you will have login information such as username and password. If you don't have one, you need to apply and accept it first so you can use the banking services online.

Enter the SBI Net Banking Portal by entering your username and password.

Select the Electronic Services menu. You will find a pop-up drop-down menu. From the list of services you can find, click on the ATM Card Service option.

This will take you to a new page. Now you have to click "Activate a new ATM card".

You land on the next page. From your list of accounts, select the account for which you accept the new ATM. Enter the 16 digit ATM number in the appropriate column as desired.

In the next column you will be asked to enter the same number again for confirmation. Once done, you need to click on the "Activate" option.

The next page shows all the details required for your new ATM card. Once you find the right one, you can press the "Confirm" option.

You will receive a high security password which will be sent to your registered mobile number. You must enter this password in the appropriate fields and then click on the "Confirm" option.

You have now successfully activated your new ATM card and can now be used at ATMs and card transfer machines (EDC machines).

However, to be able to pay with your ATM card, you need an ATM PIN. You can make it by visiting the nearest ATM. Another way to create an ATM PIN is by using the SMS method, IVR method, or visiting the SBI branch where you have an account.
